Mr. Umar Rashid M.Sc. completed his studies for his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of St Andrews in July 2012. Umar was in the SACHI research group with Professor Aaron Quigley. His research focused on Enhancing User Experience with Distributed Interaction Space Across Mobile Devices and Large Displays.
While the portability of mobile devices makes them desirable for pervasive access to information, their small screen real estate and the lack of peripheral input devices often impose restriction on the amount of information to be displayed and manipulated on them. In his work, Umar explored the ways mobile devices can be used with large displays to complement the inherent limitations of each device and create an enhanced user experience. This work was particularly focused on the analysis of visual attention switch for designing an interaction space distributed across heterogeneous display devices.
Umar has now passed his viva and has joined Lincoln Social Computing Lab as a Horizon Research Fellow.
