Sidi received her bachelor of engineering in Computer Science and Technology at Beijing Foreign Studies University in 2016, and graduated as an Outstanding Graduate of Beijing. In her junior year of college, her research on bilingual web news mining won her a first class prize in Capital Extra-Curriculum Scientific Paper Contest for College Students. She acquired skills about building up and maintaining a social network website, when taking part in a yearly program encouraging college students to start up their own business. During her senior year, she interned at a lab of Research Institute of Information Technology, Tsinghua University. By join in a research project on Smart Health, She learned how to crawl, filter and store health-related data on different online social communities. Her interest in this field was aroused then, so she continued to study data mining in online healthcare QA communities for bachelor degree thesis.
She was offered a place as PhD student at School of Computer Science, University of St Andrews, and received a joint scholarship from the University of St Andrews and Chinese Scholarship Council. Her proposed research is to improve the wellbeing of patients in healthcare community through online social media platform. To solve this problem, she will use recommender systems to match-make the users by collecting and analysing their profiles, activity data and biological data.
